Lakefront Gateway: Unlocking the Promise of Lake Mendota for the Campus and Community
A trio of related projects — known as Lakefront Gateway — will transform a historic stretch of Lake Mendota shoreline. A renovation of the Memorial Union (its first major overhaul since its construction in 1928), shoreline improvements, and the addition of Alumni Park between the Union and the Red Gym will make the area an even more vibrant community asset.
The projects together create a synergy that improves lakefront access for all, and will provide new green space and a needed update to the historic Memorial Union. Lakefront Gateway is the final link in the East Campus Mall, a lively pedestrian thoroughfare from Regent Street to Lake Mendota.
